“When Families Become Targets: A Protest Against ICE”

I wanted to write about my thoughts and feelings on the recent protest here in Warner Robins regarding the recent immigration fiasco being carried out by our corrupt government. The protest felt electric—filled with chants of hope and defiance, yet heavy with the weight of what brought us all together: the inhumane actions of ICE.  When I got wind that Stephanie Hernandez, a young immigrant herself, was heading a protest to stand up against this machine, I felt compelled to take a stand. After all, my mother came to America as an immigrant when she was only 15 years old so not only was I compelled, I felt it was my duty as a human being to do so.

As I stood with others demanding justice, I couldn’t shake the image of a young boy clutching his mother’s hand, his eyes wide with fear of losing her. What struck me most was the raw pain in the faces of families who had loved ones detained. One woman with trauma and pain in her eyes personally told me how they ripped the father of her children away on a whim. She told me how she told the ones detaining him that he suffered from a serious health condition and that he would need extra care. The very next day they found the father of her children unresponsive in his jail cell. All I could do was hug her and give her words of hope and encouragement. Hopefully, I will have this lady on my podcast so she can personally share her story with you all.

This isn’t just about immigration policies—it’s about a system that profits from people’s suffering by tearing families apart. It’s hard to ignore how the system targets the vulnerable, creating fear while benefiting from mass detention and deportation. This must come to a stop at some point.

We cannot remain silent while families are shattered and torn apart. Awareness and compassion are the first steps toward change. This protest reminded me that no matter how small we feel, our voices matter—and together, they can spark a movement. I encourage you all to take a stand with me on this matter.
